Duotone News Cape Town

Recommended Posts

Cape Town has been regarded as a hotspot for kiteboarding and it's not surprising why. Home to the iconic Table Mountain, Lions Head and the churning currents of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, the expansive coastline plays host to a limitless amount of world class spots and continues as far as you are willing to drive. The Duotone Kiteboarding team were there in full force. From training to developing new Duotone products, creating soon-to-come movies and representing the #truekiteboarding in style, here’s a round up of the action.

The Red Bull King of the Air is the world's most extreme and exclusive event that runs fast. It’s technical, tactical and requires radical decisions whilst weighing up the risk, but ultimately it all comes down to that one moment… Can you stick the landing?

Preparation for every scenario is key in extreme and wild events such as the Red Bull King of the Air. Watch as Lasse Walker meets up with Duotone Dice, Evo, Vegas and Juice designer Ralf Grösel, to fine tune his Dice and gain access to its extreme parameters. Watch as Tom Court captures the duo tweaking this award-winning design to perfection for the iconic Cape Doctor.

Team rider Pippa, took to the skies of Cape Town for the first ever ‘Queen is Born’ event, proving that female Big Air riding is being represented in a phenomenal way and these women are only just getting started. Showing that when a community comes together only then does the magic really starts to happen, this fresh face pulled off some late backroll kiteloops leaving us excited about her potential in the future.

Duotone’s Hannah Whiteley smashes the glass ceiling of female extreme Big Air kiteboarding in the Red Bull King of the Air 2019 Expression Session, Cape Town, South Africa. Could this year be the start of something that will see female entries be included in the main event in years to come? Anything’s possible, but for now we catch up with Hannah to hear about her experience.

#truecommitment - TOM COURT

There is no truer testament to our sport than the pure motivation that it can give you. Tom Court has shown us over the past few years that not only can you come back from blowing a knee, but you can come back from it twice! In his last video clip This Windy Planet, he sums up his state of mind after having back to back knee surgeries and the inspiration that kiteboarding has given him to overcome one of life biggest challenges. Good to see you back on the water in Cape Town Tom!

Watch the 2020 VEGAS in action whilst we talk you through every update, performance feature and overall design that creates the ultimate C-Kite.

“It´s the kite I´ve been riding since 2013 and I can´t think of any better kite for me to go big and stick clean, smooth landings.”
      Gianmaria Coccoluto
Designed for purpose, driven by performance, the 2020 VEGAS has been sharpened up through almost invisible tweaks. That in combination with the use of new materials, a huge innovation by Duotone Kiteboarding in partnership with Teijin, the VEGAS looks as always, but its crisp feel is inspiring and exciting. Those who know or want what the VEGAS delivers can truly trust the precision and vision of designer Ralf Grösel. Keeping our women freestyle team covering all spots of the podium and industry legend, Aaron Hadlow, on the water and motivated every day is a true testament to the VEGAS. Time to unleash the beast.

When developing such a highly tuned performance kite, changing anything affects the others and therefore its nature and in-flight characteristics. The new Trailing Edge wave patterns and 75 gram RipStop materials would have a really positive impact on the VEGAS, but we had to tweak and test the other design features to rebalance and achieve optimum equilibrium.

As the most specific competition kite the freestyle/wakestyle riders, Aaron Hadlow himself handles the performance testing of the VEGAS. The original C-Kite and King of the Air again sets the tone for the future.

This king of the C-Kites is in a league of its own. Riders wanting a pure Wakestyle/Freestyle machine with outstanding mega loop performance, look no further; the VEGAS has it all.
