  1. Mystic 2018 - Break Boundaries

The stars of 'Break Boundaries' are people who managed to reach the seemingly unreachable - expand the boundaries of the impossible. Bruna Kajiya - the first woman who managed to land Double Heart Attack and a kiteboardig champion at the same time. Ruben Lenten - the inventor of Mega Loop, tumor suppressor and a huge kiteboarding legend. Casper Steinfath - a guy from a small village in nothern Denmark, who overcame his phobia of water and became one of the world's best stand up paddle surfers and, finally, Boujmaa Guilloul - the champion of windsurfing, who, after a terrible accident, escaped death trying to perform Triple Forward Loop.
  2. Congratulations to our 2017 World Champions The spectacular spot of Duro Beach was the ideal setting this evening to crown our new World Champions! After patiently waiting for an improvement in wind conditions, the competition was finalized today, and the Champions were crowned in front of the crowds in Cumbuco. 1). 2017 WKL World Champions The overall results for 2017 are as follows: Men: 1st Place - Carlos Mario - Brazil What an amazing season it has been for Carlos Mario! After a tough start in Leucate, and dealing with a slight injury, Mario started the season with 2nd place. He went on in Egypt to give us an outstanding final, with the highest heat scores the WKL has ever seen. Carlos Mario has pushed the bar to its highest, and he just keeps going further. Delighted to be winning his 2nd World Title, he had the following to say about his 2017 season: "At the beginning of the championship which was in France I worried because I had an injury in my arm and was able to compete but I did not train beforehand, and I was surprised with my performance. Texel and Turkey were important for me to see new places to practice kitesurfing and make new friends. Egypt is a special place for me where my performance is always great. At this stop I was very well trained and the heats were historical for all lovers of kiteboarding, so I will consider this moment unforgettable for the rest of my life. I really liked the structure of the events, the new format of the riders dispute in the water that gives more excitement to the spectators. The use of live stream of rounds and points has changed the real-time disclosure of the sport and with that the sport is more recognized. The Brazilian stop is special for me because it is at home and I wanted to give fans of the sport more of a historical background. It was not possible because the main actor, the wind, did not show up! I know how difficult it is to organize such an event in Brazil and we have done our best. I thank the organization of Brazil, the WKL , the riders, my family and all the people and this title I offer in special to my mentor Maurício Abreu and all of Slingshot Kite. Now it is my dream that for 2018 everyone will unite in freestyle kiteboarding. Happy new year in 2018." Carlos Mario - 2017 World Champion 2nd Place - Liam Whaley - Spain Liam Whaley had an exceptional start to the season, taking the win at our first event in Leucate, France. He has battled through several injuries that made it hard for him to train as much as he really wanted to, but he still managed to perform exceptionally well at each event. He finished 4th at our last event in Egypt, and takes a well deserved 2nd place overall for 2017. "I'm so happy to finish the season in 2nd place. It's been amazing competing against these guys. Im looking forward to 2018 and competing again. Thanks to all of my sponsors and family for their support." Liam Whaley 3rd Place - Set Teixeira - Brazil It has been a fantastic year for Brazilian rider Set Teixeira, who commenced with a 3rd place podium finish in Leucate. He continued riding the rest of the year with determination, and managed to constantly achieve good results, improving on his riding with each heat. This year he achieves his best ever result, 3rd place overall for 2017. "I’m feeling very good after my best year in the tour, getting a proud result for myself. My training days in the water and in the gym, working with good people that are involved with kiteboarding is important for my athlete career. I’m always grateful to my sponsors for the support making my objectives possible! My main objective is always do better every year with my projects. Training for the tour next year and i will work with more people that will make my year a huge one! Thanks to the wkl tour and all the people that are involved in making our tour better every year! My objective is always do better every year with my projects. Training for the tour next year and i will work with more people that will make my year a huge one! Thanks to the WKL tour and all the people that are involved in making our tour better every year!" Set Teixeira 2). 2017 WKL World Champions Women: 1st Place - Bruna Kajiya - Brazil A third World Title for the incredibly talented Bruna Kajiya! What a season she has had. Each event saw Kajiya riding with even more confidence, performing incredible tricks with power and determination. This has catapulted her to the top of the rankings, and she is delighted to be winning this 2017 World Title in her home country, Brazil. "I am so happy winning my third World Title. It's been incredible, and I never dreamed I would get so far. I feel so fortunate to be doing what I love, what I have so much passion for, and to be able to do it well and share that with other people is amazing." Bruna Kajiya - 2017 World Champion 2nd Place - Annabel van Westerop - Netherlands Annabel van Westerop has had an outstanding season, and managed to achieve her best overall result ever, even while facing the difficult task of studying at university while competing. Van Westerop finished 2nd in Leucate at the first event of the year, and 3rd place in both Akyaka and El Gouna. She is delighted to complete 2017 with such a high ranking, and will be back next season for more! "Finishing 2nd in the World.... words can't explain how grateful I am. Competing the past few years has been such a special journey and I can't believe I have been able to make such an improvement again this year, making it from 3rd place last year, to 2nd this year! It is more challenging than ever to do well and this motivates me even more to keep stepping it up and make my dreams come true." Annabel van Westerop 3rd Place - Francesca Bagnoli - Italy 2017 has been incredible for Bagnoli, after she managed to qualify for the Elite League after our first event in Leucate. This is her first year competing full-time and she has showed some amazing progress and talent. Several podium finishes have led her to achieve 3rd place overall for 2017. We are looking forward to seeing plenty more from this young Italian rider! "This is was an awesome year for me. I’ve always dreamt to be one of the top riders in the world and finally, after all the training and sacrifices, my dream came true. I still cannot believe that I’m sharing the podium with 2 amazing girls and strong riders as Bruna and Annabel. I didn’t expect that from my first year in the elite league but all the hard work paid off. Thanks to that result next year I’m still able to compete in the elite league and I’m even more motivated to improve my riding and do better in competition." 4. What’s In A Name?

The action of 'What's in a Name' takes place 'somewhere in Africa, then 'somewhere in Brazil', then, again, 'somewhere in Africa', and so on. Starring some kiteboarding girls and guys. That's how an incredibly insensitive to beauty person would describe the following video on the basis of the words appearing on the screen. While watching it, however, you'll quickly realize that we are dealing with some of the most beautiful kiting spots in the world and people you're watching belong to the world top class riders. If you don't have 20 minutes to watch 'What's in a Name', find them!
  5. The 2016 World Kiteboarding League Champions

There could not have been a more perfect ending to our 2016 season than this final at the Aircalin Kitesurf Pro in New Caledonia. This location provided the World Kiteboarding League athletes with optimal conditions to demonstrate their power and talent. Throughout the year we have seen an unbelievable level of riding, that keeps raising the standard of freestyle kiteboarding to another level. 3rd Overall Men - Alex Pastor As a former World Champion, Alex Pastor from Spain knew what he wanted to work towards this year. He has demonstrated skill and talent, and is always certain to add plenty of style to his riding. He had some unfortunate luck in his final heat here in New Caledonia, injuring his hand, and did not ride as well as he had been anticipating. However, his good results through the year lead him to this 3rd position in the overall rankings. 1). The 2016 World Kiteboarding League Champions 2nd Overall Men - Youri Zoon Youri Zoon, 2x former World Champion from the Netherlands also had his eye on the number one position this year. His last World Title was back in 2011, and this was his opportunity to get back to the top. He has been riding unbelievably well throughout the year, and put on an extremely impressive performance in this final in New Caledonia. Unfortunately that number one spot was not quite within his grasp, but 2nd overall is a demonstration of his talent and perseverance. 2). The 2016 World Kiteboarding League Champions 1st Overall Men - Carlos Mario To describe the level of riding that Carlos Mario has achieved throughout this year is no easy feat. He has shown such incredible talent and performs every trick with such ease that there are times when he seems almost super-human. This young rider from Cauipe is fully deserving of this years Overall Title, and we are excited to see how will continue to push the level of competitive kiteboarding in 2017. 3). The 2016 World Kiteboarding League Champions 3rd Overall Women - Annabel Van Westerop 2016 was a year of many changes for Annabel Van Westerop of Aruba. Changing sponsors, starting University and learning how to combine student life with competitive kiteboarding. We are delighted to see that this female athlete has what it takes to manage all of those elements and still stay at the very top of the kiteboarding elite. We look forward to seeing her climb even higher in 2017. 4). The 2016 World Kiteboarding League Champions 2nd Overall Women - Hannah Whiteley It was great to have Hannah Whiteley from the UK at every stop of the tour this year. She has shown us that she is a force to be reckoned with. Lots of power and strength go into Hannah's riding, and it has certainly paid off giving her this 2nd position overall. 5). The 2016 World Kiteboarding League Champions 1st Overall Women - Bruna Kajiya Simply said, Bruna Kajiya from Brazil has raised the bar for Women's kiteboarding. Pushing herself and her fellow competitors, it has been nothing short of spectacular watching her fight to maintain her top position throughout this year. We are extremely happy to see her achieve this year's Overall title. 6). 7. The final day at the Aircalin Kitesurf Pro was full of adrenaline and high emotions. Both the Men's and Women's finals were completed, and the day ended with the crowning of this year's World Kiteboarding League Overall Champions. The Women's final saw Bruna Kajiya start off strong and dominate the heat with her style and power. The brazilian rider landed a perfectly executed 315, Heart Attack and KGB. The other three athletes in the heat were fighting hard for the remaining podium positions, and the 2nd position went to Annabel Van Westerop from Aruba who rode an extremely strong heat, Hannah Whiteley taking 3rd and Paula Novotna in 4th. 1). World Kiteboarding League - New Caledonia, Final Day The Men's final was a festival of double handle passes, with the men showing an insane level of riding right from the start of the heat. All of the competitors went for 317's and Backside 7's, but it was Carlos Mario from Brazil who was determined to win this competition and pulled a nearly perfect Heart Attack 7 which left all the spectators speechless. He continued with amazing high-scoring tricks like a Hinterberger 9, Slim 9, KGB7 and the first ever 3110 landed in competition, which unfortunately did not have a solid landing so did not score as high as the spectators were anticipating. Former World Champion Youri Zoon demonstrated some incredible power and focus by landing and very clean Slim7 and Backside 317 gaining a 2nd position. Set Teixeira from Brasil showed some outstanding talent during this final heat, and landed a 317, KGB7 and Heart Attack 5, giving him 3rd place at this event. Marc Jacobs from New Zealand rode extremely well but needed a few higher scoring tricks to get on the podium. He was followed by Alex Pastor from Spain who took several unfortunate crashes and injured his hand, complicating the heat for him. David Tonijuan from Spain also landed several great doubles, and he finished this event in 5th position. 2). World Kiteboarding League - New Caledonia, Final Day The final results for the Aircalin Kitesurf Pro in New Caledonia are: Women: 1st - Bruna Kajiya 2nd - Annabel Van Westerop 3rd - Hannah Whiteley 4th - Paula Novotona 3). 8. Today saw a solid four hours of non-stop freestyle action here in New Caledonia. Women's Round 3 and 4 were completed as well as men's Round 2, before the tide dropped down and competition was called off for the day. 1). World Kiteboarding League - New Caledonia, Day 4 Women's Round 3 Heat 5 started once again with fairly light wind conditions. The athletes were using 10m to 13m kites and had to fight to gain speed and height for their tricks. After four tricks per rider the judges decided to postpone the heat due to the dropping winds. Bruna Kajiya was in the lead with a good Front to Blind, and she was followed by Annabel Van Westerop who showed solid riding throughout. The heat was resumed after a 45 minute break as the wind speed increased. This enabled the girls to put on a great display of powered tricks. It was Kajiya who won the heat earning her a place directly in the finals, and local rider Maureen Castelle passed through to the next round alongside Annabel Van Westerop. 2). World Kiteboarding League - New Caledonia, Day 4 For Heat 6 it was Hannah Whiteley from the UK who reigned supreme, landing a great KGB and Back Mobe despite tangling her kite lines in the middle of her heat and having to change equipment, earning herself a spot in tomorrow's finals. Paula Novotna and Rita Arnaus placed 2nd and 3rd earning themselves a spot in the next round. The last Women's heat of the day saw 4 girls fight for one last chance to join Kajiya and Whiteley in the finals. All four athletes put on an insane display of powered KGBs, Heart Attacks, Slimchances and Hinterberger 3s but it came down to Annabel Van Westerop and Paula Novotna who managed to just place themselves above the others. They were delighted to be joining in the Women's Final that will take place tomorrow. 3). World Kiteboarding League - New Caledonia, Day 4 Men's Round 2 Heat 5 saw Spanish rider David Tonijuan lead the heat with a powered 317 and Heart Attack, executed with commitment and style. He was closely followed by Paul Serin who landed a good Slim5 and Back Mobe 5. Both riders passed to the next round. 4). World Kiteboarding League - New Caledonia, Day 4 Stefan Spiessberger dominated Heat 6 landing a 317 and a Backside 315, and he was followed by local rider Arthur Guillebert who showed great power and style but crashed his last three tricks. Both pass through to Round 3. 5). World Kiteboarding League - New Caledonia, Day 4 Our live stream was once again running from 9 am through to 5pm allowing everyone to enjoy every minute of the action. We will be back once again tomorrow morning at the same time. 9. Day two at the Aircalin Kitesurf Pro started with a bang at approximately 12.30 pm once the typical New Caledonian winds kicked in. Women's Round 1 Heats 1 and 2 were completed, and after a two hour break to wait for the tide to come back in, Men's Round 1 Heat 1 was was also completed. 1). World Kiteboarding League, New Caledonia Hannah Whiteley from the UK dominated the first women's heat, landing a KGB that gave a high score of 8.27. Annabel Van Westerop followed close behind also landing a impressive display of tricks including a nice S-bend to Blind. Both girls now pass through directly to Round Three. Local riders Pauline Valesa and Marine Duprat will pass through to Round Two. 2). World Kiteboarding League, New Caledonia In the second heat of the day it was current leader Bruna Kajiya from Brasil who was on fire, making every trick look easy as she pulled out a KGB and Slim Chance giving her a good advantage over her competitors. Paula Novotna followed her through to Round Three after starting slowly but gaining better scores towards the end of her heat. Rita Arnaus landed a high scoring Back to Blind towards the end of her heat, and she will be going through to Round 2 with local rider Maureen Castelle. 3). World Kiteboarding League, New Caledonia Once the tide had filled in, the Men's Round 1 Heat 1 commenced, and it was former World Champion Alex Pastor who mastered his heat, with a massive Heart Attack 7, showing a huge amount of commitment in all of his doubles. The icing on the cake was his grabbed KGB5 that gave him the win. Antoine Fermon from France and Austrian Rider Stefan Spiessberger both fought hard for the second spot in order to jump straight through to Round 3, but it was Fermon who cruised through with a powerful Front Blind Mobe and a Double Heart Attack. Spiessberger landed a nice Frontside 7 and a Backside 315 but just missed out on the 2nd position by 0.2 points. He will pass through to Round 2 with French rider Victor Hays who managed to overcome his recent knee injury and landed a clean KGB and Slim5. 4). 12. Pringles Kitesurf World Cup - Final Day After a long day of waiting for the wind to arrive, it finally kicked in at the late hour of 3pm, just as the riders and crew had almost given up hope. The rush commenced to get prepared and try to complete as much of the Freestyle Main Event as possible. Men's Round 1, Heat 4, which had been cancelled the previous day, was the first to be completed. The men had three trick attempts left, and it was Carlos Mario, who blasted his way through the heat taking first place, followed by French rider Val Garat, and Dominican rider Joselito del Rosario, all three of them gaining a place in Round 2. 1). Pringles Kitesurf World Cup Fehmarn - Final Day Heat 5 was intense, with so many top riders battling against each other, but it was Alex Pastor who put on the most solid display of riding and won the heat, followed closely by Liam Whaley and Youri Zoon. 2). Pringles Kitesurf World Cup Fehmarn - Final Day Unfortunately the Men's main event was not completed as the wind dropped just at the start of Heat 6. This means that there was no Men's result for this event in Fehmarn, Germany. 3). Pringles Kitesurf World Cup Fehmarn - Final Day For the Women, they luckily had just enough wind to complete the final. Bruna Kajiya from Brasil put on a powerful comeback display, after riding a disappointing heat in the last round. She was on fire, landing an impressive array of tricks and dominating her heat. Hannah Whiteley landed an impressive Back Mobe, scoring her 5.97 but not enough to beat Bruna's scores. Annabel Van Westerop and Paula Novotna tried their hardest to land their best tricks, but finally it was Bruna who claimed her crown, and took yet another well-deserved victory. Finals scores were: 1st. Bruna Kajiya 2nd. Hannah Whitely 3rd. Annabel Van Westerop 4th. Paula Novotna 4). Pringles Kitesurf World Cup Fehmarn - Final Day The Women's prize giving took place in front of the crowds who had gathered throughout the afternoon in Fehmarn. The three ladies were delighted to have had the opportunity to complete the finals after a complicated week of wind conditions. To finalise the event, the GKA Rider of the Year awards were presented to Bruna Kajiya and Alex Pastor. This award is given for overall results from a variety of events including the Triple S, King of the Air, WKL Cabarete and WKL Germany amongst others. 5). Pringles Kitesurf World Cup Fehmarn - Final Day Danny Galiart, CEO of the World Kiteboarding League, was delighted to be awarded a cheque of 2180 euros for the Clean Ocean Project, our charity partner. It was a week of challenging conditions, but none the less an exceptional set up and organisation once again here at the Pringles Kitesurf World Cup, the largest kiteboarding event of the year. Thank you to all the riders, crew, sponsors and the public for supporting this magnificent event. WKL Media Cover photo by: facebook.com/worldkiteboardingleague
